Join the Summer Block Party!

Last week I introduced the Summer Block Party. This week it's in full swing! Here's more of the details if you missed it last time!

I've teamed up with 7 other designers to share 9 unique summer-inspired quilt blocks and it's free to join! Here's a taste of what we've shared so far.

At the end of the block releases this week we will share the quilt finishing instructions. (YOU GUYS - it's so cute! I just finished piecing the whole quilt the other night, and it is pretty amazing.)

But that's not all! Each Friday through the month of July we'll be sharing multiple additional projects with these blocks!

Click the button below to see the FREE block I designed and shared this week and to find all of the details for signing up for the Sew Along.

It's not too late to join! Whenever you join, your first email will include a link to the block archive so you can access all of the blocks you missed. And there are more super cute ones coming this week!

These blocks will only be available for free through July, so access them and save them while you can.

Fun Finds on the Web - Foundation Paper Piecing:

A handful of the summer patterns I shared above - as well as part of my Summer Block Party blocks - are made with Foundation Paper-Piecing (FPP) techniques. Have you tried FPP? It's definitely a different ball game than tradition piecing and takes some practice to get the hang of this new technique.

But once you do, there are SO many places you can go with this technique to make some really detailed designs with fabric . The paper-foundation means that you can accurately create complex shapes that would be very difficult to make piecing them traditionally.

Here are a few fun FPP resources:

If you're looking for a great introduction and basic patterns for starting, visit Leila Gardunia's Guide to Foundation Paper Piecing.

Kristina at Center Street Quilts has a free FPP Heart block (in multiple sizes) that is a great practice block for getting started with Foundation Paper Piecing. Kristina also has lots of beautiful FPP patterns in her Etsy Shop.

If you're already a confident Foundation Paper-Piecing: the below heart pattern is by Susan of Quilty Pie - she's got a variety of adorable FPP patterns in a range of difficulty levels.

And for extra intense piecing AND beauty check out the work of Berene at Happy Sew Lucky. Her Sew Like A Boss pattern is amazing!

Sales this week

It's the last weekend to get my Fly the Flag and Land That I Love quilt patterns on sale. Marked down 25% off through tomorrow, June 23.

I had enough fabric to pull together one more Fly the Flag Kit. It's in my shop. And it is definitely the last.

The Fat Quarter Shop has all SewLine marking pens, glue pens and refills in their Sale Section.

My favorite Dritz numbered marking pins are 43% off.

This week I went on my first real hike of the summer. And it was glorious! We hit one of my favorite trails with and end destination of seasonal falls. I always try to hit this spot in June while the snow run-off is feeding the falls as they'll dry up a lot by later in the summer.

The wildflowers were starting to bloom, the hills were green, and the creeks flowing. Almost heaven, if you ask me. This is why these spots were the inspiration for my latest fabric collection, Albion.

I'm still not in as good of shape as I've been in years past. I'm trying to get out and rebuild some stamina so I can do more hikes this summer. It helps that our summer schedule is not as crazy busy as summers past. Which is so nice. We've also got extended family coming in town this week and a family wedding next week. We're excited for the festivities!

As a result, there will probably be less sewing this week, but that's probably the case for all of us this time of year. It's worth it to enjoy this summer season while it's here.

One last thing. Last Sunday my friend and I got to deliver the memory quilts I mentioned in last week's newsletter to their special recipients. That experience had some magical moments watching each kid pick the quilt with their Dad's shirts that were extra-special to them. Those moments are truly the best part of being a maker.

Hope you have a wonderful week. As always, thanks for stopping by. xo
