Free Baby Quilt Pattern + New Summer Sew Along!

Free Baby Quilt Pattern + New Summer Sew Along!

Hello friends!

To anyone who is new this week - Welcome! Each Saturday afternoon I send out a quick weekly newsletter with the latest quilt finish, tutorial, or seasonal project ideas, as well as tips + tricks, sales and other fun quilting finds on the web.

Wow - I have SO many fun things to share with you this week! Let's dive right in!

First of all, this week I shared a new free printable Baby Quilt pattern.

I love a quick baby quilt. They're great gifts and great for showing off fun fabrics! I used Minki Kim's Bloomberry collection for this one.

This pattern is also perfect for using 10" x 10" precuts (aka Layer Cakes). Click below to get the pattern tutorial, fabric details, etc.

A Free Summer Sew Along!

In last week's edition I teased a fun annoucement this week! Well here's the scoop! Meet the Summer Block Party! 🍉

The Summer Block Party is free sew along hosted by myself and 7 of my designer friends. This summer we will be sharing the cutest summer-inspired quilt blocks, lots of inspiration, and some great bonus projects!

The QAL starts on Monday June 17 and each day for 9 days we'll release a new block. On the 10th day we will send out the finishing instructions to turn your blocks into a 44" x 58" quilt.

But then the fun continues in July! Each Friday in July we will share free bonus projects to make with your Summer Block Party blocks. We'll all be sewing at our own speed throughout the summer - this is meant to be a fun, low-stress summertime project.

If you've already signed up here or with another designer, you don't need to sign up again. You're good to go!

If you want the scoop, click the button below to get all of the details including how to sign up + fabric information, etc.

I've also marked down 25% off a lot of of my remaining Portsmouth Stash (used to make these two quilts.). This fabric is now out of print and getting scarce so if you're looking for some good, sun-washed red, white, and blue prints, now's your chance!

Fun Finds on the Web:

In honor of Juneteenth this week here in the US, I'm highlighting the quilters of Gee's Bend. They are some of my favorite sources of quilting inspiration.

If you're in the Philadelphia area there is an exhibit of Gee's Bend quilts through July 7 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Love this free Make It Modern pillow tutorial from Riley Blake Designs. Would be really fun in bright summer colors!

Nicole from Modern Handmade shared a great free tutorial for a zipper bag made with mesh webbing fabric. Perfect for trips to the beach or the pool!

Current Fabric Sales:

This week Missouri Star is having Cuddle Craze with 30% off 2+ yards of any cuddle fabric (through 6/16). Also 25% off all Hobbs Batting through today (Saturday). Use my Missouri Star Affiliate Link and get an additional 20% off any order over $50.

For my Aussie readers: Gnome Angel is closing the yardage department of her shop. Right now you can get 60% off 1m+ of any fabric ordered. Discount taken automatically at checkout. Goes through June 30.

In honor of Father's Day, here's one of my all-time favorite guest posts from the past that my husband wrote about a Fatherhood moment when our kids were little. Click here to read - its a perfect example of how dad's doing their thing can bring both practical and entertaining results. Especially when it comes to children's fashion. 😂

In more somber news, I've been part of a community quilting effort over the past few weeks. Our neighborhood lost a young father a few months ago. He was also a former Marine, a veteran of multiple tours in Iraq as well as serving in law enforcement in our local community.

A group of great women spearheaded a combined effort to make quilts for his 3 children from some of his t-shirts and favorite sports jerseys so that we could have them ready for their first Father's Day without their Dad. It's given Father's Day a more nuanced meaning this year. Life sure is complicated - especially in all things family related. Sending my love to all of us dealing with the complicated stuff. And more gratitude for the sacrifice of every serviceman or woman - and their families. The toll can be heavy.

It feels impossible to solve the big heartaches in life. But hopefully a little handmade love brings some comfort - or at least a knowledge that they've got a team who loves them.

As always, thanks so much for stopping by. See you next week!

Amy
