What's New + Fall Flashback + Day of Service Sewing Ideas

Greetings friends!

I hope this finds you all doing well. Happy September! My favorite month of the year! Hooray!

This week I'm sharing an update on what I've been working on including the latest projects on my sewing table this month.

I'm trying to finish up a couple of long (and super-long) WIP's (Works in Progress) so that I can photograph them with the fall colors later this month.

Click below to see all of the details of what I'm working on.

Charities in Need of Fabric or Handmade Donations

Quilter’s are good-hearted people. ❀

SO many of you are already involved in sewing for charitable causes. I love hearing about the ways that you are helping people in your local communities and around the world.

As we remember the anniversary of 9/11 here in the US this coming week, I appreciate that we honor that tragic day with a Day of Service.

With that in mind I thought I would put together a list of resources for finding charities in need of donations including hand-made goods or fabric.

Of course, opportunities to serve and help our local or global community are never restricted to certain days or places.

Feel free to pin this post to Pinterest to use as a resource if you're looking for charities in the future.

Fall Flashback

I have made so many Fall-themed quilts over the years, I thought it would be fun to do a flashback to one of my favorite Fall Quilts!

Fun Finds on the Web

Bev McCullough has a fun, scrappy pillow project perfect for fall along with a video tutorial.

I love this free quilt tutorial called Prairie from Amanda from Material Girl Quilts. I love this fresh take on a traditional block and fall quilt and it's perfect for using Fat Quarters.

Checkout this gorgeous Halloween mini quilt pattern from Amy Chappell of Ameroonie Designs

Sharon Holland has a free printable pattern for a really clever handmade needle and thread case.

Upcoming Events

This week is the Garden of Quilts event in Lehi, Utah. Big welcome to anyone coming in from out of town! If you're in the area, it's always a gorgeous show filled with gorgeous gardens and gorgeous quilts.

For anyone wanting to build a business in the quilting industry: At the end of September Elizabeth Chappell is hosting a Quilterpreneur Retreat in fabulous Sundance, Utah. I will be speaking at this event as well as 11 other business entrepreneurs, including Jenna Kutcher. There are only a couple of spots left.

Thank you so much to many of you who sent kind words regarding what I shared last week about our kids' milestones and missions. (Speaking of which, Ron and Jenny Doan are leaving this month to do something similar for two years in Africa!)

Also, a special note to families whose children are prevented from the opportunities they'd hoped for because of health, neurodivergence, or other circumstances and particularly those whose lives were cut too short. Thank you to a dear reader, Marie, for sharing some of her own experience and reminding me to be more sensitive. I tasted some of the weight of grief when our son was diagnosed with his chronic condition, as we grieved the life we thought he would have. That weight is heavy.

I also watched a dear friend who's baby was diagnosed with cancer last week. And there were other innocent children who didn't come home from school this week. While I don't know fully the fear and loss of loosing a child or watching one suffer even more than our boy, I will never forget the heaviness of heart and feeling like I was living in a nightmare for months.

I don't feel eloquent enough to adequately express the love I am sending to any momma-hearts (and hearts of any loved one) who grieve missed milestones and family members, but know that you are loved and remembered. And I will do better.

As always, thanks for checking in. Hope you have a great week and some good stitching time too.

xo,

Amy
