Free Maple Leaf Quilt Block Pattern + Simple Pin Cushion Tutorial

Maple Leaf Quilt Block, Simple Pin Cushion Tutorial + Labor Day Sales

Greetings friends!

We're almost to September. So excited that my FAVORITE month of the year is almost here! I'm already enjoying slightly cooler temps and soaking up being outside as much as possible. Tonight my husband and are going to our first college football game.

You know that Christmas song, "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year"? I sing that song all through the month of September.

Maple Leaf Quilt Block Free Tutorial

One of my all time favorite fall quilts that I pull out every year is my Modern Maples quilt that I made about 8 years ago using gorgeous shot cottons. The quilting on this one is amazing too. You can see pictures and read more about my Modern Maples quilt here.

A few years ago I wrote up a tutorial for this classic Maple Leaf quilt block in three different sizes with a free printable download of the pattern tutorial for easy reference.

Simple Sprocket Pincushion Tutorial

Looking for a quick finish? Or maybe the perfect gift for a friend who sews?

The Simple Sprocket Pincushion tutorial from Sedef Imer is the answer.

This tutorial is so quick and simple to make, thanks to it's clever design. (No cutting or piecing little wedges!)

You could easily make a bunch in one sitting. And it's a great project for using up scraps.

Happy Labor Day Weekend to all here in the US. Our weekend is pretty low-key with plans to recover and catch up on regular life after a really fun and special, (but also exhausting - in the best kind of way) 2 weeks with all of our kids at home.

This week our girls returned to their apartments and regular jobs (one local and one in Washington DC). Our older son, who returned 2.5 weeks ago from 2 years volunteering as a missionary for our church in Oregon. He worked mainly with people in Spanish-speaking communities where he taught ESL classes, and just tried to help out anyone who was struggling with life in any way. It's been so cool to see the ways he's grown up and changed and learned to see the issues and needs real people face. This past week we helped him move to an apartment with friend and get ready to start his first year of college!

Also, this past week our 18-year-old son left for his own 2-year mission experience. He will be living in the greater Charlotte, North Carolina area. (Here's a little more information about what he'll be doing if you're curious.)

That event made for an emotional week. Many of you well know the mixed feelings of a child growing up and going out into the world. We're so excited for him and the growth he'll experience and the people he'll get to know and serve, but at the same time I worry about how he'll handle all of the grown-up living - especially as he will now mange some of his chronic health issues (POTS) more independently. I feel confident knowing the support system he'll have in North Carolina, but I also feel a little bit like Paddington Bear's Aunt Lucy and want to tie a note around his neck that says, "Please Look After This Boy."

If you ever see any of those LDS missionaries out and about in your communities, know they have a mom at home who misses them and is so very grateful for the kindness of strangers. And know that if you need help in your yard or community, ask them to help! That's what they love doing most.

Have a great week wherever you are! As always, thanks so much for stopping by.

xo,

Amy
