Free Patterns for Pixelated Patchwork Quilts

Free Patterns for Pixelated Patchwork Quilts + Piecing Tips and Shortcuts

Greetings friends!

Thank you so much for stopping by. I'm really grateful!

Life's a little on the crazy side so sewing continues to be somewhat minimal, but I have been snatching some time here and there. In this week's newsletter I'm focusing on some quilting ideas for short-summer-attention-spans.

Pixelated Quilt Patterns

Pixelated Quilts are a fun and simple take on a sewing basic patchwork quilts. Meaning it's really easy - all you're doing is sewing patchwork squares together into rows. There are lots of fun pixelated quilt patterns available (many of them free!) so I thought I'd put together a list of some favorites:

This is one of the variety of pixelated heart quilts I've made over the years. These quilts great for a gift and easy to sew. You can find instructions for this Pixelated Heart Quilt here.

Pixelated States! This pixelated California quilt was created by reader, Beth. Holly Lesue of Maker Valley has a pixelated Utah quilt and Corine Sovey has a cool Texas Forever quilt pattern with pixelated HST blocks.

Carmen of Ten Sisters Handicraft has a bunch of pixelated patterns on their site. And they're perfect for using their unique and clever fusible easy-piecing grid panels to make pixelated projects even easier. (Especially useful if you want pieces smaller than 3" squares.) You can see Carmen's tutorials for how to use them here.

How cute is this simple, pixelated Rainbow quilt pattern from Leila Gardunia?

Embroidery designs are great inspiration for pixelated quilts. Tilda has had some super popular floral-inspired pixelated quilt patterns with a new Flower Bouquet quilt this year. You can find the past versions here: the original free Embroidery Flowers quilt from Tilda is a and the Flower Vase Embroidery Quilt.

Another example is this pixelated Rose Quilt from Riley Blake Designs.

And, as each of these patterns show, any cross-stitch pattern would translate easily into a pixelated quilt design. Just replace the stitches with patchwork squares!

Patchwork Piecing Short Cut!

If you're making a Pixelated Quilt - or any quilt made from basic patchwork squares - be sure to checkout Holly Lesue's Patchwork-Piecing Short-cut Technique. It's a game changer.

Fun Finds - Small Projects for Summer:

My attention span for big projects wanes considerably in the summer. Here are a couple of summer-themed mini projects to scratch your itch to stitch, but not take on anything big:

This free Pixelated Pineapple Mini quilt from Sassafras Lane has cheery summer vibes.

Suzy Quilts shares an easy tutorial for a fat-quarter-friendly market tote. Big enough for lots of groceries, beach towels or even a quilt!

Love the S'Mores Stitchery hoop art design from Bev of Flamingo Toes

Caroline of Sew Can She has a quick tutorial for reusable quilted picnic placemats.

This week I'll leave you with another picture from our camping trip last week. This is along a trail called Catherine's Pass and one of my favorite places. If you look carefully at the text print from my Albion collection, you'll see Catherine's Pass listed there. :)

It's back to school week around here and I'm starting to wrap my head around the fact that for the first time in 20 years, I don't have a kid going "back-to-school" in the public school system. It's a little bittersweet! I'll miss the connections to the community that being part of the local high school creates. We've been so lucky to have a great school community.

And also, I'm not going to lie, it's kind of a relief. lol. I was recently cleaning out my email inbox (which is kind of a disaster) and did a search for everything that ever sent from our school district and high school and did a giant DELETE. It felt so good! I also did a major purge this week of all of the random school supplies we've accumulated over the years.

In spite of moving from one busy era of our life, does not mean the next few weeks will not be busy ones. We will have all 4 of our kids at home for 2 weeks, while prepping one to move and start his first year of college and another for a move across the country to North Carolina. Oh, and helping my parents downsize and move. 😅 It's going to be a crazy couple of weeks, but I'm trying to take things one day at a time and enjoy the moments with our kids.

Also, sad to see the Olympics end. I've loved the great drama, the sportsmanship, and human achievement. As well as the families in the stands! I'm going to miss it!

Hoping all is well where you are. Thanks again for stopping by.

Have a great week.

xo,

Amy
